Dr. Ivonne Borrero is the Assistant Director of Behavioral Health Services for Boston Public Schools, where she supervises over 100 school psychologists across 120 schools. She supports the department's efforts in racial equity, multilingual education, and staff coaching, and collaborates with district departments to provide comprehensive support to families on a wide range of social-emotional topics in multiple languages.
With a career spanning more than three decades, Dr. Borrero has served as a bilingual school psychologist in Boston and Newton Public Schools, a supervisor in the BPS Office of English Language Learners, an adjunct professor at Lasell University, and a clinical psychologist in private practice in Puerto Rico. Her work has included developing bilingual special education programs, providing individual and group counseling, and training educators in classroom management and social-emotional learning.
Fluent in English and Spanish, Dr. Borrero was honored as one of the 2023 Hispanic Leaders in School Psychology. Reflecting on her journey, she has emphasized the need for representation in school psychology so that every student's voice is heard.
